People come in all shapes and sizes. It’s a cliche, I know, but it’s a cliche because it’s true. The old model of the three basic body types– ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph– still works. Sometimes people reside somewhere in the middle of two of these but even still it’s a good basic way of thinking about body types.
Ectomorph: Usually skinny or at least thin. Think of people really good at long distance running. Think runway models. The challenge with this body type is putting on muscle, if that’s a goal. Out of shape ectomorphs end up looking like what we call these days “skinny fat”. Ectomorphs have higher rates of osteoporosis, especially among women, which is yet another good reason (not that we needed more) to weight train.
Endomorph: Big people, or at least “bigger”. Usually big-boned (that’s not just a euphemism) and strong without necessarily much natural muscle…
